Did you know you’re allowed to build your business however the **** you want?
Turns out there’s no rule book that says:
Are you a designer who loves branding but hates magazine layout? π Say π no π to magazine layout work… or find a magazine designer to swap projects with.
Don’t want to keep answering the “what’s your rate” question? Decide on the projects you’ll do and set a price for each (which you can change anytime).
Love your work but decide you really need 3 hours a day to learn Tom Morello guitar shreds so you can melt faces at your next family bbq? Block out the time on your calendar, and protect it.
A lot of us will copy-paste the last job we were in, call it our “business”, then wonder why it’s so much harder and we’re earning so much less.
Not your fault – there’s a lack of helpful education around this stuff. We do the default (hourly, invoicing, etc) because it’s easy, and it’s probably what we’ve been exposed to.
There are better ways, I promise π€
