I have a friend working in the legal space, who’s is moving his professional focus to protecting the oceans.
He’s a mate, so I know the motivations behind this align with his environmental values.
A short while back though, I asked him if he was nervous about making such a big change with work.
Have you ever heard someone say something that got stuck in your head, one of those things you’ll “never forget what they said”? His answer was one of those.
“Anything I’m afraid of right now is nothing compared to what I’m afraid of for him”, pointing to his little son. “He’s eventually gonna ask me what side I was on when all of this started going to s**t, right now I can’t give him good answer”.
Families are incredible motivators.
Like him, I really don’t want to be part of the generation that could have fixed the climate problem but didn’t, especially when the kids in the family are going to hit us with hard questions that we can’t answer.
So personally, I acknowledge that I’ve been part of the problem for a long time – now I’m on the side trying to fix it.
Aside from all of the work that desperately needs to be done – it’s a fun space, there’s innovation and awesome people everywhere, there’s ridiculous amounts of investment money, as well as customers who want to support climate-conscious businesses… and in a wee while, you’ll get to say that you contributed to the climate solution.
So… which side are you on? 😉
