Tipping points (good ones)

Just over 18% of Australia’s power comes from renewable energy sources.

Sound low considering it’s 2022? It is – a staggering number of countries are powered by 50-96% renewables.

There’s good news: the tipping point into mass adoption—according to the experience curve—is just 5%.

87 countries (according to this) have passed the 5% tipping point into mass adoption of renewable energy.

The experience curve tells us that as a country gets better at building something beyond mass adoption, the cost to build that something plummets… which means the increase in renewables in those countries is likely to happen more rapidly.

It’s a huge deal – Aus is beyond the tipping point, we just gotta get more numbers behind it now. From the same article:

“The more panels and turbines are deployed, the better we get at making them. Every time the global supply of solar doubles, the cost of adding more installations declines by almost 30%.”
