One of the big challenges with climate change is understanding the timeline.
I don't have a full picture for you - the 2030 / 2040 / 2050 targets are intended to put us on the best path possible for the best outcome achievable.
If all emissions globally stopped tomorrow, and not a single puff of pollution went into the air ever again, the science tells us it would still take a decade or two before the planet normalised... In other words, global warming would carry on for a bit while we dealt with what's up there already.
I'm optimistic of seeing some of the benefit of our changes in my lifetime, but I've mostly accepted that is going to get worse before it gets better. For now it's kinda time to just get unselfish.
The changes we make today may not have a perceivable impact for a long time.
I get nervous thinking about blazing summers and bushfires and floods each year, I just can't imagine what 20 years from now will feel like... If something I can do today might make that a little easier on the youngsters in our family, that's a no brainer for me.
