Shopping can be an arduous thing in our house.
Depending on what we’re buying, we look for locally or ethically made; sustainable materials; some indication of how workers are treated; and ideally, low waste packaging.
I bought some bedding recently and didn’t really have an expectation of what that would look like other than hopefully no soft plastic, but when our order from Bhumi arrived I was genuinely surprised:
Aside from the cardboard box and paper tape, everything was packaged inside cotton storage bags or wrapped in a cotton ribbon.
I imagine it took some additional thought and sourcing to go against what’s “normal”, but what was starkly clear to me when I opened the box was that what Bhumi says about sustainability on its website isn’t empty chatter – it carried right through to me, their customer.
Not only have they taken away the burden of disposing of their waste for them, they’ve actually flipped packaging on its head and given us something useful in its place.
If you shop more than I do, this probably isn’t all that remarkable. The big wow for me was the follow-through of values right up to delivery.
Wasteful reimagined into useful – pretty cool!
