I’ve been getting a lot of scam phone calls lately.
Which are super annoying – unless you’re me.
I actually get a little buzz when they call.
To be honest, I don’t have bucketloads of spare time. Self-employed, plus 2 little kids, so there are a lot of meals and block towers and drawings of the Wiggles and Moana to pull together through the day.
But I’ve always got 5 minutes to sit on a scam call and be genuinely thankful that they’ve brought the virus inside my modem to my attention.
“Wow gosh I’m SO glad you called. You need my IP, oh what’s that? Sure, I don’t really know how to drive the computer, I usually ask my kids HAHA LOL so I need your help, how do I find it… Open a browser, you mean like Chrome? Ok it’s open. Now what? Type in “What’s my IP” – can you please spell IP…”.
It’s like playing “no you hang up first” (they always hang up first).
I figure 5 minutes spent with me getting nowhere is at least one unsuspecting person they won’t get to today.
If you or someone you know runs a scam business selling security, health insurance, bank accounts, mobile plans, or anything that keeps me safe on the internet, gimme a buzz – I wanna know EVERYTHING (just check recent data breaches if you need my number).
Because those of us who are building real businesses, trying to be genuinely helpful, and applying abstract concepts like “service” and “ethics”, love being reminded there’s a rung so low on the business bar that we’ll never actually fall that far – even if we go bankrupt.
Knuckleheads.
Enjoy your weekend 🙂
