That’s actually… kinda dark 😳

A few days ago, I was struggling to find an alternative to saying “kill two birds with one stone” because (trying not to overthinking it too much), I just don’t wanna say that anymore.

Especially with toddlers around who take what you say SO literally, I find myself being careful not to say thing like:

  • Let’s not beat a dead horse;
  • You’ve let the cat out of the bag;
  • It’s raining cats and dogs;
  • We’re on a wild goose chase;
  • There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

How do I explain to a 3 year old why I need to chase a goose or skin a cat!?!?

In my search for other options, I stumbled on this page of alternatives to these phrases and many more, which I found both heartening and amusing.

My default settings are so deep-seeded that I haven’t noticed until recently how dark they really are, so I’m forcing my lazy self to create some new defaults.

…because there’s more than one way to spin a bat! 🏏
