Steps towards a “climate first” business

Let’s say you decide that 2024 is the year you’re going to bite the bullet and declare your business climate-first.

And in the same moment, you realise that’s a lofty mountain to climb.

Even though the best advice you’ve heard is to start small, you’re still wondering “where do I even start!?”.

Like many things that are retrofitted, it’s much more work to retrofit a climate-first approach to an existing business, than it is to start a new business with a climate-first approach from the start.

But we have existing businesses… so let’s try smooshing both together.

Here’s one way to do it

Develop a single service – a new one, or break off an existing one – and rebuild it with a climate-first approach… similar to how you’d build a new business, but simplified.

Detailed example tomorrow.

We acknowledge that we work on Wangal land of the wider Eora nation now known as Sydney. Wangal land sadly no longer inhabits any Wangal people.

We pay respect to the Elders of the past, as well as current and emerging Elders of surrounding lands and beyond. Let's all care for Wangal land, the Eora nation and Country.

For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
