I still find driving a manual transmission lots of fun.
But as EVs take over, the manual will vanish. It’s been on the decline for more than a decade as automatic technology has improved.
While most people will barely care, some enthusiasts might seek to create demand that sees the manual force it’s way back into the car world, even after we’re all driving EVs.
The proof? Lexus is actually working on a “fake” manual EV that gives all the feel of manual driving by… basically using silly tricks.
EVs don’t need the assistance that a manual setup provides, so the only real way to emulate it is by creating a bunch of fake clicks, clunks and vrooms that give it the impression something’s happening under there when it’s not.
It’s experimental but, silly as it sounds, manual fans might yet have a manual option in the future.
It looks like it’d be a pricey upgrade though, which is funny – manual used to be the “cheap” option when automatic was seen as a luxury upgrade.
How much for the nostalgia? 🙂
