When you feel like you need support to hit a goal, or clear a to-do list, or stay on track for a stint, an accountability partner shouldn’t become part of the furniture – especially if you’re paying them.
In a perfect scenario, they give you the support you need to tick that goal off, while equipping you with the tools you need to continue ticking off goals afterwards, without their support.
Can you crack on by yourself now that your goal’s been hit? Your accountability partner should be thrilled for you; Do you need their support for the next thing too? They’ll serve you best if they’re giving you skills and tricks to stay on track yourself, without needing extra support.
We’re not all wired to do things alone without support. Sometimes we just need that check-in, or to know that someone will hound you to get it done.
But that’s always up to you to decide.
For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
