Low cost green travel

Germany introduced a €49-a-month unlimited bus and train pass, to encourage more use of lower-emission public transport over driving.

The result?

10 million passes used
A 25% year-on-year jump in the number of people making low-carbon train trips
Busier trains to popular holiday destinations, suggesting that the passes are being used more for long-distance travel as well.
