Just one rule

There's just one rule for publishing your climate goals: perfection is not allowed.

Perfect is a fantasy. Nobody is doing “sustainability” perfectly, and it's a terrible reason to delay getting started.

Anyone who says they're carbon neutral, or eco-friendly, or their carbon footprint doesn't exist, is trying to curate perfection. They're skipping over a lot of stuff - some don't know they are, but plenty do.

Consider what they're not saying - that's the stuff you can say:

"We're not running on renewable energy yet, but plan to be 100% renewable within 2 years" is a braver move than "We're carbon neutral".

Simply declaring your intention for good can start to align your organisation with the types of people it will resonate with. Intention for good, is more powerful than looking curatedly perfect.

(Google thinks curatedly isn't a word - decide for yourself).

Admitting imperfection will probably be unique in your space, at least for now. If you want to start sending clear signals about who you are, jump on it.

You don't need permission, qualifications, or BCorp status.
