It's just a jump to the left

While climate awareness has been a thing for many decades, using it as an opportunity for differentiation is still kinda new.

...is where I left you yesterday.

Below are some examples for inspiration... the reason I've chosen these specific examples is that in most cases, you can almost guess the "traditional" business that the idea was borne from.

Without knowing for sure, they all look like a traditional business that has just taken one step to the left, and now offers something quite unique, but probably not too far from what it originally did.

In other words, they spotted an opportunity for differentiation.

Eg: Canyon Solar are rapid installers of solar shade structures, with inbuilt EV charging and water capture. They might have* been traditional roof solar panel installers, but their step-to-the-left is specialising in shade structures, with those easy add-on features (EV charging and water capture) that make it a more complete climate solution (*I have no idea where they started - the point is to hopefully see yourself in one or more of the examples).

Our Energy - an energy platform where people who produce their own clean energy can share it with others in their community.

Deep Green Energy - redirects heat generated from computer servers to places that always need heat, like apartment buildings or swimming pools.

Yona - Australian-made fold-away beds constructed from cardboard, and guaranteed for 5 years.

Dandelions - provides support using IoT and Space 🚀 to teams who need to build or restore communications in remote locations.

Seabin - a bin that floats in the harbour and sucks in rubbish, without harming sealife.

Jolt - building a network of EV fast chargers, with free daily kms.

There are hundreds if not thousands more on directories like Climate Salad.

It's just a jump to the left...
