A drum I beat a lot is encouraging organisations to publicise their climate intentions on their website.
Set a target, eg: all electric fleet vehicles; and set a timeframe, eg: by 2028 – and boom, you’ve set intentions – and they’ll look great on your website.
Now you need to follow through.
The funny thing about your website is you can change it anytime you like.
The point of putting it on your website isn’t so you can add a few years when you miss your target.
We’ll have an all electric fleet by 2028 2035!
The point is to set a target you have full intention of acting on.
Some companies (in the $50m+ bracket) will be obligated to report on their climate policies and will be legally required to hit certain targets.
For the rest of us, it’s the honesty system.
If you’re going to set goals, set bold yet achievable climate goals, with plans to actually achieve them.
For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
