Handwritten Christmas cards

I have a side hobby sending handwritten greeting cards to people in Australia, from people who either:

  • Hate their own handwriting
  • Know they’ll forget to send a card
  • Know they’re lazy
  • Like the idea of sending cards but just don’t want the hassle
  • or live overseas (👈 how it started)

When I lived in the UK, sending gifts home to Aus was something I often wanted to do–and did do a couple of times–but it made little sense.

Aside from the cost, it just took a really long time, and you often had to think so far in advance to have a chance of it arriving on time. It could take a week or 3 months, no one could say.

Once I was back in Aus, I started offering to send Christmas cards locally for my mates back in the UK, who had family here in Aus.

Fast forward a few years, and this is now what it looks like:

  • Cardboard for the cards is (very nice paper) salvaged from throwouts, op-shops, Freecycle, and “Roadsidea”
  • Likewise envelopes – all salvaged
  • For the front of the card, you can choose from a small selection of original artworks (mine) done in a minimal black style to keep ink use low
  • Printed on my home printer using toxic-free ink
  • Then your message is handwritten (by me) using my favourite eco-ink pen that makes my handwriting look just a bit nice
  • Plus I stamp, address, and post it
  • …so all you have to do is fill in the form and pay!

Then on Christmas Eve, I donate a few bucks from however many I’ve sold to a charity.

If you’d like a low-impact handwritten card for a family member, friend or client somewhere in Australia, please feel free to order one here.

To clarify, it works like this:

  • You fill in a form with your message, recipient name, and address
  • Pay with credit card
  • I handwrite (not type) the card, then post it for you

They’re $19, but you can use the code 5OFF for a $5 discount until this Sunday December 10th – I’m only doing 20 to start with, but will hopefully do more from next week.

Cards will be posted by next Wednesday December 13 to give it a good chance of arriving before Christmas.
