Is Net Zero emissions truly possible?
Maybe in a handful of situations.
But for the vast majority of organisations it’s likely more a set of goal posts to aim for, rather than a goal you truly expect to hit.
It’s like sitting a test where the best possible result is 100%.
Of course you’d love to get every answer right, but you might be pretty chuffed if you only got 98%, or 95, or 90, or 80.
Even 50% would be huge in this case.
If you’re offsetting, then sure – you can show on paper that you’ve scored 100%… Maybe even 200%!
But that’s like buying the answers to the test… And no one can kid themselves that continuing to emit is completely cancelled out by planting trees.
Shoot for 100%, and be proud of an honest 80%.
