Getting creative with portable renewable power

Very cool little invention I just spotted on Indiegogo.

Shine is a portable wind turbine for charging devices. If you go camping often, this’d be an alternative (or addition) to carrying a solar panel.

From my view, some of the benefits they list – which are meant to make it seem a better option – are not too different from portable solar panels. But a few nifty things that make it very different:

  • It works day or night in rain, cloud or sunshine.
  • It has a built-in battery, which solar panels usually don’t have
  • If the wind speed doubles, the output to the battery increases by 8x!

It’s made in Canada and currently only available to that part of the world.

Innovation is such a fun thing to explore. This is essentially the same technology as those huge wind turbines, but scaled down to be portable which opens up new avenues.

Like being an option for apartments, renters, or anyone who wants to add a quick renewable power source to their home, or for people who live or work in remote areas.
