Freecycle.org has more than 9 million members across the world, with over 5000 local chapters.
In Australia depending on where you live, a chapter might be a state region, a whole city, or just one suburb... People either offer stuff to give away, or you can ask if anyone has something that you need.
The only rule is that it must be free, no exceptions. Listings are free, and everything given it accepted is free.
People have offered things as big as pianos, cars, computers, TVs and beds; as small as safety pins, pencil cases and half-reams of printer paper; and as seemingly useless as empty shoe boxes, bed slats, carpet off-cuts, a jar; plus mountains of things in between.
If you're waiting for the next kerbside collection to clear some stuff out, maybe list a few things on Freecycle first. You honestly never know what someone's "treasure" will be.
