It's hard to think back to when I started really paying attention to sustainability and climate, but I think it was around 2011.
I worked in a small creative agency and would go to the cafe next door for coffee a few times a day. I loved the coffee, but the build-up of disposable coffee cups annoyed me.
Our office didn't have recycling back then (and it took me a while to realise I could just bring my own mug to the cafe), so I would stack the disposable cups up with intentions of filling them with soil and seeds, or turning them into an artwork, or something else that never happened.
I think the annoyance of that, along with my brain darting around looking for a solution for what to do with all these disposable cups, was what first put sustainability on my radar (working at the next creative agency cemented it, and almost caused me to transition away from the industry entirely).
