No one warned you that self-employment would resemble your old job did they?
That you’d spend at least 40 hours a week, doing the same work you were doing at your old job, now for less money.
And on top of that, you also have to do all the stuff that fairies in the background used to take care of, like:
No one mentioned that instead of having one boss, you’d have 11.
No one mentioned you’d have to generate your own perks, leave time, benefits and colleagues.
Well here’s the awesome thing about self-employment:
It doesn’t need to look like a job.
There are as many ways to structure a self-employed business as there are people on the earth – it’s completely unique to you.
I replicated my job for years, but once I figured out how to undo all that (which took time, not gonna lie), it’s become my favourite thing to help other soloists with.
Please don’t clone your old job (unless that job was awesome 😜)…
If that’s what’s happened, I’d love to hear from you.
I bet I can give you at least one thing to start moving you towards a more you-shaped solo business 🤘
For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
