There’s a funny line to dance along when you start making climate-conscious changes.
When I switched the business accounts to Bank Australia (an ethical bank that doesn’t invest in fossil fuels), I was super happy.
Finally my money was being put where I actually wanted to see it used: I had found a supplier that matched my values.
I wouldn’t say it was anything to brag about exactly… I’d just switched banks from one to another.
But for signalling purposes, I did feel it was important to communicate that switch publicly to allow like-minded people to spot it.
A client actually noticed the bank name on an invoice, and emailed me to say he was happy that he wasn’t the only one. Selfishly or otherwise, I wanted to create more opportunities for that kind of spontaneous interaction to happen.
So that communication now sits on our Impact page.
It’s just a tiny signal that gives people a glimpse of what you truly value, which might help them filter out who they want to work with.
For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
