Not everyone follows the COP summits…
COP28 is happening at the moment – supposed to be a coming together of climate champs brewing up solutions and plans to bring emissions down and save the world.
It’s being held in the UAE, and the president of the summit (a position voted by the host nation without input from the UN) is the CEO of an oil company. Oh, he’s also the environment minister for the UAE.
It’s an epic conflict of interest, and a lot of people have lost or are losing faith in the summits. They’ve become a bit of a circus.
That said, there are some very smart people there.
Tzeporah Berman is one of them:
Some people say the idea of a #FossilFuelTreaty is too bold. But we don’t have time for more of the same. For 30 years we’ve missed our targets. Coal, oil, and gas are killing us. The good news is we don’t need them any more. We can phase out fossil fuels, if we work together.
Lots of smarts and logic, but so much red tape to push through at a summit like this.
‘We don’t need fossil fuels anymore’ – pretty bold!
Love to know your thoughts – too bold, or can we completely replace fossil fuels?
