Comparison is the thief of joy

It’s hard not to play the comparison game… but it can be so unhealthy.

Instead of appreciating what we have or how far we’ve come, comparison focuses our energy on what we lack or where we fall short in relation to others – good to dip into occasionally perhaps, but definitely not a great place to linger.

If you’re forging your own path with self-employment, it simply has to be… I’m gonna say it… fun (or at least have that be a goal).

Every business is unique, especially in the creative space, especially among soloists – your strengths, approach, and particularly your path to here are entirely your own.

Self-employment is about building something on your terms – if you get stuck comparing, you’re letting someone else’s path dictate those terms.

I can 100% guarantee their path is different to yours (or your money back 😉).

It’s impossible to know exactly how much enjoyment they get from their business, and actually it doesn’t matter whether you know or not. They know.

Manufacture a space where work is actually fun.

You’ve experienced fun at work before – whatever that was, you can replicate it.

We acknowledge that we work on Wangal land of the wider Eora nation now known as Sydney. Wangal land sadly no longer inhabits any Wangal people.

We pay respect to the Elders of the past, as well as current and emerging Elders of surrounding lands and beyond. Let's all care for Wangal land, the Eora nation and Country.

For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
