What brings the future into focus for you?
For me, it’s a conversation I had with a mate a couple years ago.
He was not convinced that his line of work was something he’d be proud talking about in years to come – he imagined having a conversation with his grown-up son, and having to admit to him that he didn’t do his part to try and fix the climate mess.
His words stuck with me – I didn’t think I was on a path to having a good answer to that question either.
Now when I think about most things to do with work, I simultaneously think about the little ones in our families when they’re all grown up, and picture just sitting around with them having a chat.
When they ask what I did, I don’t want to say “well I tried my best”… I do really want to say “we did our bit, and it worked”.
Remember 2020? The whole planet went into lockdown, planes stopped flying and people were stranded in whatever country they last entered. It’s a crazy story now, and one well tell little ones for years to come.
I see the current climate situation as a story like that – this crazy time when we almost suffocated an entire planet… but then fixed it.
For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
