Climate action in the AFL

Being grand final day (go swannies!) I was curious to see if there was anything worth knowing climate-wise in the AFL.

Turns out, Richmond are the first team to implement an environmental sustainability action plan, proving even sports teams need to play their part.

Some of their changes include undertaking greenhouse gas emissions measurements to establish the club’s emissions baseline, getting rid of single use plastic at games and events, installing solar, and reusing grey water from the MCG.

Their targets are to reduce net emissions by 25% by 2024, by 50% by 2030, and net zero by 2050 or sooner.

Very commendable – but I’m still not supporting them next year. GO SWANNIES.

Enjoy the game 😁
