Be wary of “green” marketing

Hesta (the superannuation fund), who invests more than $2bn in fossil fuel projects, used footage of the School Strike for Climate group in one of it’s ad campaigns (source: article on the Guardian today).

School Strike for Climate is the movement started by Greta Thunberg a few years back, and is actively trying to get political leaders to fight against climate change.

For a superfund to try make themselves look climate conscious by using their footage is very shady.

Advertising is a heavily data-driven industry – they know how to get messaging across that makes you think anything it wants you to think.

Be wary of advertising that makes claims like this. For now, it’s on us to do the background checks.

We acknowledge that we work on Wangal land of the wider Eora nation now known as Sydney. Wangal land sadly no longer inhabits any Wangal people.

We pay respect to the Elders of the past, as well as current and emerging Elders of surrounding lands and beyond. Let's all care for Wangal land, the Eora nation and Country.

For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
