Pathways

Goals are well and good, but they may sometimes feel more like a weight than a motivator.

A goal like "I want $13.5k months" can be awesome, but if it's a long way off or you can't see how you'll get there yet, it's instant pressure.

Setting a rigid goal like that without a pathway towards it is likely to send you into a spin of posting and networking and publishing and buying courses and programs and ads and all manner of things that probably don't align with your vibe.

The goal isn't wrong, but perhaps the pathway towards it needs a rethink.

For some, this works:

  • Set goal
  • Build plan
  • Execute plan

...and is a simplistic view of how much of my training is structured.

For others, while they want the $$ each month, setting it as the goal is simply unwelcome pressure that creates roadblocks.

So how do you work towards $13.5k months without your brain knowing you're working towards $13.5k months?

Here are some cool ideas that have come up in the last few weeks (and I'd love to hear more from you):

  • Set a theme, rather than a goal - eg: This is my quarter of 'Simplicity'; Or my season of 'Finishing Things'.
  • Focus on incremental progress, rather than outcomes - eg: I want to work with removal companies, or charities, or whatever, so I'll connect with their marketing leads each work day.
  • Experiment... or in other words, replace "goal" with "curiosity" - eg: What'd happen if I created a Get-It-In-1-Week version of my biggest offer?

Goals can create roadblocks, but with a little lateral thinking you can take alternate paths.

If you have one that's worked for you I'd love to hear about it!
