Define “professional”

I’m on LinkedIn, but I don’t love it.

I don’t love social media at all really (it’s the “social” bit that turns me off 😂).

But I’m finding ways to be as comfortable as possible with it.

When I started on LinkedIn, there was this kind of weird…I dunno, culture? …that made me feel like I needed to “be professional”. Of all the platforms, L.I. came with an implied business-attire dress code.

I’m the furthest thing from that, and it’s taken me a long time to realise that it simply doesn’t matter

My version of “being professional” is actually just being my flawed self – which means lots of things, but one of them is not trying to be businessy or corporate, which I’m so not.

Come to think of it, that’s a decent enough definition for “professional” in general.

I’ve been swindled by enough suits to recognise a suit not an indicator of professionalism in any way.

Authentic; Helpful; Genuine; Writes how they speak… Far closer indicators of a pro in my book.
