When I catch myself blowing time on something that doesn’t need to be happening right now (ie, procrastinating), I sometimes allow myself an ironic 15 minutes to watch one of my favourite TED Talks: Tim Urban – Inside the mind of a master procrastinator.
Aside from being hilariously relatable, the final few minutes are a sharp reminder of just how precious our time is.
I’m not against downtime by any means – not at all.
But personally, I put a lot of effort into (trying to) make time for work, time for chores, time for stuff that needs to be done, to maximise downtime for stuff that I want to do, like hang with the family.
So while I’m not against downtime, I’m definitely against insidious behaviour that muscles in on the time I’ve blocked out to do the important things that… free up my time…!
