Ready to pick a side?

I’ve shared this story before, about a friend who worked in the legal space, but was moving his professional focus to protecting the oceans.

At the time, I asked him if he was nervous about making such a big career change, and his answer still rings in my head years later:

“Anything I’m afraid of right now is nothing compared to what I’m afraid of for him”, pointing to his little son. “He’s eventually gonna ask me what side I was on when all of this started going to s**t, right now I can’t give him good answer”.

Families are incredible motivators.

Like him, I really don’t want to be part of the generation that could have fixed the climate problem but didn’t, especially when the kids are gonna to hit us with hard questions we can’t answer.

So personally, I acknowledge that I’ve been part of the problem for a long time, still am – but also consciously trying to help fix it.

Aside from all of the work that desperately needs to be done, climate is a fun space to play in – there’s innovation and awesome people everywhere, there’s ridiculous amounts of investment money, as well as customers who want to support climate-conscious businesses…

It’s like there’s this huge motivation to focus on that’s not just you sitting in a dark room trying to figure out what your “Why” is – it’s more of a collective Why that people are really trying to support and cheerlead each other with.

And once you start, you realise that joining the side that contributes to the climate solution was easier than you thought.

So… ready to pick a side? 😉

We pay respect to the Elders of the past, as well as current and emerging Elders of surrounding lands and beyond. Let's all care for Wangal land, the Eora nation and Country.

For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
