Imagine, instead of having to “climate-up” your whole business, you could just create one standalone product, that ticked as many of your climate requirements as possible, created a predictable piece of business for you, and got you rolling towards a lower emission existence.
Something you know how to deliver so well, you can (almost) do it with your eyes closed.
With a fixed price, so it’s a no-brainer for a buyer.
One that might even become a sellable asset on it’s own down the track.
Or something you keep and improve on over time, making it more efficient and potentially even bumping the price as it improved.
(You might have heard of a productised service – it’s basically that).
I’m attempting to build something that fits this description, which is partly why I’ve been blabbering on about software/SaaS lately.
The cool thing about it, is that basically anyone who delivers a service, particularly a solo business owner, can likely create a similar asset.
And I like the idea of applying some greater business-chops to it, to make it a standalone and potentially sellable asset, even if you never actually sell it (ala “Built to Sell” by John Warrillow).
Will share more detail this week.
For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
