Snips from an ethical bank

You might have noticed I’m very pro-switching away from your shitty current bank, especially if it’s one of the big 4 (CommBank, Westpac, NAB or ANZ).

I often share this list of ethical banks in Australia as a first stop to look for alternatives, but if you’ve never clicked on it, below are a few snippets from the website of one Australian ethical bank, Bank Australia, in case it piques your interest.

  • Clean money, a customer-owned conservation reserve, and no executive bonuses.
It’s banking as you know it with an ethical bent.
  • (We offer) incentives for customers making sustainable choices – like our Clean Energy Home Loan and Low-Emission Vehicle Car Loan.
  • We put our customers at the centre of the bank, balance purpose and profit, and make decisions that have a positive impact on people, communities and the planet.
  • Our customers have a voice and a vote on how the bank is run. And the issues we take action on.
  • We take action on the issues that matter to you, like climate. Our net zero by 2035 target is the most ambitious of any Australian bank.
  • You get a say in where we invest your money and which issues we support through our Impact Fund.

Every bank will use your money to continue to make lots more money, but what one bank chooses to do with it varies enormously to another.

If you’d rather know it was being used for good instead of harm, switch it away (and please email me to let me know you did it!).
