The carbon offsets market is looking more shaky than ever.
More and more spotlights are getting thrown on offset certifying bodies, offset programs and the credits themselves.
Initially, the intention of buying offsets was for companies to “top up” their climate action by offsetting activities whose emissions couldn’t be reduced any further.
It quickly became a shortcut for companies to build an entire climate policy—or rather, a marketing campaign—without doing any real climate work, and it’s now, inevitably, spinning out of control.
Real climate work is harder than buying offsets. Reducing emissions is harder.
But we’re up for it.
Harder is almost always more rewarding when it’s done… agree or disagree?
