Carbon offsets have created this weird scenario that allows companies to almost pretend nothing’s wrong with the climate.
John Oliver, the British dude who loves to poke fun at everything, tore into carbon credits this week calling them total bullsh*t.
Considering the examples he’s using, it’s hard to argue. He highlights scenarios where the system is being abused, and people have found ways to scam and rort the system (as people often do).
But used correctly, offsets are an important part of the solution.
They’re just not a solution on their own.
Used in conjunction with a genuine emission reduction plan, the right offset scheme will enhance your good.
