Something I can’t stop myself from doing is clicking the “sustainability” link at the bottom of a website I’m on – even if I’m only there to urgently check the store directory and opening hours so I know whether to rush there.
The best part is when it’s a pleasant surprise, like when I looked up Leichhardt Marketplace (which has around 60-70 stores).
Their sustainability policy covers not only their own building and amenities, but sets rules for each store to comply with certain high-target rules, such as recycling cooking oil from food retailers, or signing “green” leases that requires the retailer to purchase 100% green power.
If it feels bold to wrangle one business into some form of climate compliance, imagine doing it for 60!
For self-employed creatives, normal business traps are easy to fall into and overcomplicate things - but they’re totally avoidable when flying solo.
